The Department of Experimental Medicine and Biochemical Science at the University of Perugia (UNIPG) has over the years gained a solid reputation in the field of infectious diseases. The Department hosts internationally renown groups working in the field of immunity and infectious diseases.

The Department possesses a modern facility for protein and DNA microarrays, endowed with state-of-the-art equipment like microdeposition robots and lasers scanners. Computer-operated high-speed robots are operated in a controlled environment in which temperature and relative humidity are strictly controlled. Resources for the culture and infection of Plasmodium and Toxoplasma parasites are available in the laboratory of the groups of the Malaria group. Electron microscopy, confocal microscopy and live imaging equipment are also present on campus.
